HEAL App – Health, Exercise, Activity and Living

HEAL is an app for improving the 5 fundamental aspects of health: diet, sleep, activity, relaxation and exercise. This is Active Aims’ new app which can be downloaded onto your mobile device for FREE.

The app challenges you to collect ‘health hearts‘ based on these five attributes. Men and women are aiming for 25 health hearts.

You are challenged to complete six progressive stages, which will change and improve your lifestyle and health behaviours.

The programme is designed especially for people who have a significant amount of weight to lose. Reaching and completing stage 6 wins you an Active Aims Option 1 Online Personal Training programme for 2 weeks.

How it works

1. Diet

Your diet is key to your health; we are challenging you to eat a balanced and varied menu; which includes all food groups. Remember that, food is nutrition and contains the nutrients you need for your body to function optimally. Ladies an all inclusive diet of 2000 calories and men 2500 calories.

Enter your diet as accurately as you can, by searching for the food you have eaten in our calorie search.

Stage one focuses on maintaining calorie intake and you will be allocated up to 7 hearts for reaching dietary targets.

Each stage gets harder and by stage 6 the focus will also include cooking meals from scratch and making balanced meals and food choices.

2. Hydration

Staying hydrated is important, as we are 60% water, being dehydrated can cause headaches, tired muscles and a lack of concentration. A simple test to check your hydration level is to look at the colour of your urine it should be clear, the more it is tinged yellow orange the more you are dehydrated.

Make sure you stay hydrated by collecting the ‘water droplets’, avoid too much alcohol and go steady on any type of fizzy drink as these are empty calories.

Hydration is entered manually and then displayed on your dashboard so that you can see just how much fluid you need to intake for the rest of the day.

3. Sleep and Relaxation

These might seem ‘an easy to attain’ aspect of health but sleep deprivation has a huge effect on your health. Lack of sleep affects your mood, food cravings, concentration and ability to function optimally.

Relaxation is equally important because being able to fully relax aids sleep.

Relaxing and switching off is also effective in blocks of 15 minutes throughout the day – this can be by watching TV, mediation, reading, sowing or any other activity, which requires you to switch off thinking.

The app allows you to set a timer for your sleep and will record automatically how much sleep you have had, or you can enter manually.

4. Activity

Moving is key to overall health, if you have a desk job you might have to make an extra effort to walk and reach your step goal. Enable step tracking on your mobile device, you will be allocated hearts for how much you move during the day. Increase the amount of movement during the day and decrease the risk of developing some chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.

Make sure you allow your phone to access the health app and your steps will record automatically on your dashboard. It is easy to see how many step you need to take for the rest of the day to achieve your activity hearts.

5. Exercise

This is your chance to improve your physical function; The 6 video’s start at a beginner level but get progressively harder. It is important that you workout as hard as you can but don’t over do it; access the intensity by using this rate of personal exertion (1= nothing at all, 2 = easy, 3 = moderate intensity, 4 = tough, 5 = the maximum I can achieve).

Including exercise into your weekly routine will improve muscle strength, balance and cardiovascular function.

Additionally you can manually enter your exercise data and your health hearts will be added according to the time you have been exercising.

Confirm your results

At the end of the day you will be asked to confirm your data, it will ask you how you felt about your lifestyle that day, in term of how easy or hard you found it to collect your hearts.

The app will keep you on each stage for 7 days then take you up to the next stage if you have managed to stay on track.
